Rest is productive…

🍂Rest is productive... it is an activity all of its own! Taking time to rest and relax will boost happiness and productivity in many aspects of life. It’s only taken me about 35 years to realise this! 

🍂It turns out that rest is pretty much essential to our health but for some reason we’re not all that good at doing it. Or when we do rest, for some crazy reason some of us find ourselves feeling guilty!

🍂My promise to myself for some time now has been to rest and slow down. It doesn’t come easily but the positive impact to my health, happiness and those around me is huge. Today I experience much less guilt about putting my ‘to do list’ on hold and instead meeting up with a friend for a long walk or finding time in the day to read my book. I am so thankful that now I am able to recognise just how much good it’s doing me. 

🍂One of the biggest gifts that yoga keeps giving me is the ability to find moments of stillness in my life. Every time I practice I am reminded to breath, listen, move, feel and notice what my mind and body are telling me. And it seems the more I do this on my mat, the greater the transformation off the mat!

🍂If we over stimulate the mind and body - whether it be through too much caffeine, being continually on the go or from toxic thoughts, then how can we expect the nervous system to receive and generate responses in an effective and sustainable way?

🍂Taking regular time out and learning the art of self-care is a great way to nourish the nervous system and support physical and emotional well-being. 

🍂Rest prevents burnout plus it provides an opportunity to slow down and journey inwards rather than always looking elsewhere for the answers.
